In a Jazz mood…

I’m in a Jazz mood today… Could have been more festive music, African rhythms or 80s Pop… But Jazz is also a big part of what I listen too… Here are a few samples…

Energizing!

Fast & furious version of « Compared To What » by Anita Moore and the Tsu Jazz Ensemble.

Great Sax!

Mandrake Som – Soul Samba (Sombossa 1975)

My Fav…

Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers – Moanin’

A classic…

Duke Ellington – Take the A Train

More trains in Jazz?

Glenn Miller – Chattanooga Choo Choo

After topping the charts for more than two months, « Chattanooga Choo Choo » by Glenn Miller & His Orchestra became the first recording to be certified as a million-seller and was honored with a gold record, a master copy of the disc sprayed with gold lacquer by RCA as a publicity stunt.

What is recognized today as a Gold Record was not initiated for another 16 years when the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) adopted the idea and trademarked the Gold Record.

Monk live in Scandinavia – 1966

More Thelonious Monk

A night with Blue Note

Herbie Hancock – Empyrean Isles (Full Album)

Are you in a Jazz mood too, sometimes? Tell me more in the comments below…

What album or song changed your life?

Some albums can be dangerous. The best ones should be labeled « This could change your life. »

What music/album represents your first musical emotions, and potentially had an impact on your musical future?

music that changed my life

When I was 15yo or so, I spent a few days with an uncle who was a HiFi freak with hightech equipment and a huge vinyl collection. He selected 2 albums for me to listen to:

The African Beat by Art Blakey & Afro-drum ensemble (1962)

and

Osibisa‘s self-titled first album (1971)

Now you know why I’m into African music…
