Today in 1968, “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay” by Otis Redding was released. It was co-written with Steve Cropper (Stax, Booker T & The MG’s and later part of the Blues Brothers).

Recorded just days before his death in a plane crash, the song became the first posthumous single to top the charts in the US (Billboard #1 HOT 100).
